2020 Aston Martin DBX Preview

The 2020 DBX Concept

Aston Martin announced its intention to make a high rider with the DBX concept it showed back in 2015, but the production incarnation looks nothing like the sleek two-door concept. The production Aston Martin DBX is a more conventional five-door design since it not only needs to look good but also caters for practical needs as well.

The 2020 DBX Edition will perform with the same liveliness and grace as its range of revered performance cars, but also demonstrate the impressive off-road and towing capabilities that are expected of ultra-expensive luxury crossovers.

The Engine

According to Caranddriver, The 2020 Aston Martin DBX will launch with a Mercedes-AMG–sourced V-8 engine. A hybrid model will eventually follow, and an all-electric version is expected much further down the road. The DBX is said to share a basic platform with the DB11 coupe, and we expect it to be mainly constructed of aluminum. So far, the company has only released images of a prototype version wrapped in camouflage. However, the heavily veiled Aston has unmistakable trademarks such as the oblong grille up front and the dovetail spoiler out back. Of course, its lifted ride height and four-door body are uncommon elements for a brand that almost exclusively builds coupes and supercars—the Rapide S not included.

Aston Martin is well aware that building an SUV is necessary to preserve its financial viability and steal sales from high-class rivals such as the Bentley Bentayga and even the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. Too bad the DBX won’t be officially revealed until the end of 2019 before it begins production at Aston Martin’s Saint Athan facility in Wales the following year. Leading up to the unveiling, the company says the DBX SUV will be a “very different” option in its high-performance lineup, and one that earns the storied badge.

The cost of the 2020 DBX Base model starts at $200,000.
